MACS Coaching Staff

The MACS coaching staff features highly trained professionals who love the sport of swimming.  These certified and award-winning coaches are dedicated to ensuring that all MACS swimmers receive the instruction and coaching that will enable them to reach their potential as competitive swimmers. MACS coaches are certified by the American Swimming Coaches Association (ASCA), which places them among the top 15% of swim coaches in the United States.

Coach Andy

Andy Niemann joined MACS in 1994 as head age group coach, and was named head coach in 1995.  He is responsible for the overall direction of the MACS program and coaches the MACS sectional and senior groups.  Andy is certified as a level 5 coach by theAmericanSwimmingCoaches Association, which places him among the top 2 to 5% of swim coaches in the United States.

He has coached Colorado Age Group State Champions, Western Zone Champions, Junior and Senior National finalists, a United States National Junior Team member, and Olympic Trial qualifiers. Andy has also coached many state record holders, two national champions, and one national record holder. Most recently, he helped 14-year-old Bonnie Brandon achieve her 14 th place finish at the U.S. Olympic Trials.  He was named Coach of the Year by his peers in 2002 and 2008.

Andy graduated from the University of Missouri where he received his degree in secondary education and was a scholarship athlete. Niemann has been actively involved as a volunteer on the Colorado Swimming Board of Directors for the past 15 years. He also has been invited to work with swimmers at the U.S. Olympic Training Center in Colorado Springs.

Coach Catherine


Catherine joined MACS as the head age group coach in 1998.  She coaches the group 3 and 4 swimmers.  She has been coaching in Colorado since 1994, and was with the North Jeffco Swim Team prior to joining MACS.  She is a certified level 3 coach by the American Swimming Coaches Association.

During her career, Catherine has coached and help to develop the potential of hundreds of age group swimmers, placing at least one swimmer on the National Age Group Top 16 list for several seasons.  She has coached many state champions and several state record holders as well as Zone champions and finalists.  She was chosen by her peers as Colorado Age Group Coach of the Year in 2000 and 2002.  In 2003, she was awarded the USA Swimming Outstanding Service Award. 

Catherine graduated from St. Bonaventure University in 1992 with a bachelor’s degree in English and philosophy.  She was a scholarship member of Bonaventure’s Division 1 team.

Coach Gregory

 

Grzegorz (Gregory) Zgliczynski coaches MACS group 2 swimmers.  He was born in Elblag, Poland, and was a member of the Polish National Team for Pentathlon and Triathlon until the 1990s.  After coming to the U.S., he began racing as a professional triathlete. Grzegorz has had numerous high-end achievements throughout his career, including winning his age group at Ironman Hawaii. Grzegorz enjoys giving back to the sport through coaching, and has worked with age group world champions, as well as taking beginners to high-end achievement.  
 

Grzegorz has a degree in human sport performance and physical education.  He is an age group competitive swim coach with ASCA level 3 credentials, and is a certified USA cycling coach as well.  He has USAT coaching certification. He coached with the Greenwood Village Tigersharks (GTS) for seven years and has been coaching for MACS since 2006.

Coach Breann

Breann McCool coaches the Mini MACS and group 1 swimmers. She was a competitive swimmer for 11 years, including two on Illinois State University’s varsity team. Breann worked as an assistant coach for age group swim teams throughout high school and college.  She graduated from Illinois State University with a bachelor’s degree in physical education and a minor in Spanish.  In addition to coaching for MACS, Breann is a middle school physical education teacher in Aurora.
